New Date for 2026 Lake Ontario Waterfront Festival - June 6, 2026

The H. Lee White Maritime Museum and New York Sea Grant have announced June 6, 2026 as the new date for 2026 Lake Ontario Waterfront Festival. Admission is free. The event is held from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Oswego’s Historic Maritime District along the 1 West First Street Oswego Port Authority Pier.

America 250: Early Oswego through the Works of Frank Kraft

The H. Lee White Maritime Museum has announced a new exhibit for 2026 featuring the works of artist Frank J. Kraft, an Oswego native and graduate of Syracuse University. Kraft, born in 1920, captured the rich history of America in detailed watercolors tracing Oswego’s significance from discovery in 1654 through its strategic role in the War of 1812 – revealing a local story that helped shape America.

Oswego Paddlefest 2026

Hosted by the H. Lee White Maritime Museum, this non-competitive recreational paddling event offers kayakers and canoeists the unique opportunity to "lock through" up to four locks on the historic Oswego Canal.  Registration is open for the Saturday, July 11th event!

2026 Gingerbread Craft Workshop

Schooner Ontario - 2026 Update

In 2026, several painting projects are scheduled to commence in spring.  During the summer of 2026, the crew will place the new marine diesel engine, install the generator system, and place the new fuel tank.  New lower masts are currently being fabricated at the Henry B. duPont Shipyard at the Mystic Seaport Museum, with expected delivery in the fall of 2026.

Honoring the 80th Anniversary of D-Day

Today, moored along the West First Street Pier in Oswego Harbor, LT-5 Major Elisha K. Henson serves as a dock-side attraction, a remnant of the greatest generation, and a site worthy of preservation.  Seventy-five years ago, the 114’ ocean going tugboat played a crucial role in what General Dwight Eisenhower termed the “Great Crusade” – the allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944, colloquially known as D-Day.

Shipwrecks of Upstate New York
